Evoluzione - Theme

This exhibition is a showcase of what we have imagined the future could look like based on the pattern of how people consume and what people have created through the years. We see a future where people continue to appreciate premium products that express their sense of taste and personality. However, more people would become more conscious about their impact to the environment. For this reason, we see a future where craftsmanship of artisans and technology would be the perfect way to elevate the desirability and the perceive quality of green materials.

Recycled materials are a good way of preventing wastes that piles up landfills. Unfortunately, recycling uses a lot of energy and effort that eventually adds to the cost of a recycled material. Hence, it makes it very difficult for designers to create something that is economically feasible.

We have found that the best way to make economical sense of using recycled material is to understand the entire process of how the raw materials were produced. For instance, using natural latex as a material for cushioning may be environmentally friendly, but when a shape is cut the excess are thrown away thus still creating waste. This scrap material has value because it still carries the overhead value from the production and R&D of this material. The key to economically feasible green material is to find new uses for waste of a high value sustainable material.
